Exploring issues pertaining to self identity, experience, and emotion, Elesha Casimir’s work seeks to understand and communicate such topics through visual and tactile mediums. Looking deeply inward she digitally manipulates photographed self portraits as a tool for examination. In addition to photography she uses common materials such as yarn, found objects, plastic and paper to create non-traditional textiles.  Her multi-medium body of work is saturated in story telling, process, and diversity.

Jacques came to Chicago as a nine year old refugee from Togo, Africa in 2007. Arriving to the United States at a young age, he did not fully experience and understand the cultural life in Togo. His passionate pursuit for design stems from his African background and immigration to the United States. This has led him to exploring the dual nature of his cultural identities, often negotiating between his African roots and new home in the States.
This brings forth an intention of creating a modern African identity. Inspired by dress practices of Togo and other parts west Africa, Jacques is able to use it as a source of influence on how to confront masculinity through art.
